Pokémon Mega
Just when you think you've seen it all, another hijacked series is reborn as a surprisingly addicting Chinese game.
Pokémon Mega is a standalone game unaffiliated with the Pokémon franchise. The Chinese based company "InstantFuns" has taken a step in a surprisingly fun direction, creating a Pokémon RPG with a twist.
Basically, the game came to my attention as a spam link, but after a few minutes of testing it, I realized that the game was quite addicting. Perhaps it was the fact that you get boxes of millions of gold, or perhaps it was because I have never seen such bizarre evolutions. Everything is edgy and fragile as far as genuineness.
I found that, regardless of what a mock-up and probably copyright infringement this setup is, it has a surprisingly nice feel to it. The mechanics are fluid and quick to master, but it is a pay to win game (in one sense or another).
Sow what is it and why am I giving it the time of day?
Well, it is clearly a money-grab that will likely run until the copyright offices force it to be shut down by some government or another. Or at best, it will probably be blocked by your ISP. But in the meantime, do enjoy this hoax game. The game is a turn-based RPG and some of its misconstrued attempts at creating a Pokémon game are laughable. For example, Metagross evolves into Beldum. Rayquaza is a grass type, Bagon is red, Arbok has a super Arbok evolution, etc.
I would suggest that anyone reading this should try the game for shits and giggles. You can play here:
